Why Choose Us?
As the UK's leading full-service law firm, we believe we have something genuinely different to offer our trainee solicitors. The firm's training contracts are streamed so that as a trainee solicitor, you would either undertake a training contract based within the Personal or Business Legal Services divisions.
Personal Legal Services (PLS)
As a trainee solicitor within our Personal Legal Services division, you will be provided with the opportunity to work with partners and associates on their cases, and in some departments, you will be running your own caseload.
Working In PLS: Rosie's Story
Read about our recent personal injury client, Rosie - and the work of our trainees who helped secure her the compensation and medical care that was right for her.
Business Legal Services (BLS)
Joining our Business Legal Services division as a trainee solicitor will see you become fully immersed into the work from the start. Within each department, your role within those projects may change, but the opportunity to understand how your contribution plays a part in the whole deal will not.
Working In BLS: The Real Estate Deal
Read about a recent deal completed by our national Real Estate team - which involved the acquisition of seven shopping centres with just a short deadline of four weeks for the team to meet.
Every business has its own personality, its own unique DNA and way of doing things and Irwin Mitchell is no exception. Our values are the glue that binds the firm together and living them and working together as one team will help us achieve our business objectives.
At Irwin Mitchell we are one team, working towards one set of goals and driven by our passion for our clients.
As you’ll see from the profiles of our people, we’re diverse in both the people we employ and the work we do. We think this makes for a more interesting and enjoyable place to work and we think you’ll agree.
“The culture here is one of a team approach, sharing the successes and learning together as one.”
Amandeep Samra, Associate Solicitor - Birmingham.
One of the things that sets us apart from other firms is our genuine commitment to social responsibility (SR). We are national members of Business in the Community and are ranked in Business in the Community (BITC)’s ‘Top 100 Companies That Count’ CR Index, which measures organisations’ approaches to Corporate Social Responsibility issues.
We are proud to be different and celebrate the diversity of our people, our clients and our local communities. We have recently been shortlisted in the Law Society Excellence Awards for our "Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion" and have also been accredited as 'Investors in People'.
Being involved with the local community is a big part of our day-to-day working life. As a firm, we encourage all our staff to engage in community volunteering activities. As an employee you will be able to spend 14 hours volunteering each year during normal working hours. We also have an independent charity, the Irwin Mitchell Charitable Foundation (IMCF), which provides funding and support for community charities in the areas in which our offices are based.
We recognise that our activities can have an impact on the environment and that it is our responsibility to promote a proactive approach to green issues and sustainability. As one of the founding members of the Legal Sector Alliance (LSA), we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment, and a recent survey by the LSA showed that we had one of the lowest carbon footprints of UK law firms.
Our Pro Bono
Our pro bono philosophy is based on providing advice and support to those who need it most, yet who are often least able to afford it. We believe that we can use our legal expertise to ‘give something back’ to our local communities.
