It’s an exciting time to join the legal profession, which is going through some of the most radical changes in its history. With increased competition, new technology and Brexit still a hot topic, a career in law is more dynamic than it's ever been.

With a training contract or work placement at Irwin Mitchell, you’ll be guided through these challenges and more by some of the top solicitors in the country. We are committed to providing world class development for every one of our trainee solicitors.

Whichever one of our offices you choose, you’ll get the best possible start for your career as you work with a wide range of our clients on critical cases, deals and projects. Our unique training system lets trainees take seats in multiple areas of law and gain a huge variety of experience in your two years with us.

We have clear growth plans which will keep us ahead of the competition with significant investment in our people, technology and service delivery. But it’s our people who really set us apart.

Many of our partners started life here as trainee solicitors. By choosing to start your career at Irwin Mitchell, you could be beginning a rewarding and challenging journey right to the top of our firm.

Our Community

At Irwin Mitchell, being involved with local communities is a natural element of our day-to-day working life.

Whether we're visiting clients at home, supporting local businesses or working with local charities, we’re constantly talking to our communities around the country.

Our trainees enjoy getting involved too – fundraising for the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation, helping out with local disability sports events and lots more.

My Training Contract

"We recently acted for a wife in an acrimonious divorce from her husband. The parties were divided on how to split the marital assets, and couldn't agree on how the children should be cared for.

Proceedings were emotionally charged and complex, with several emergency applications being issued against our client by the husband. Due to the number and complexities of the issues in dispute, a high level of client contact was required to properly understand the case, and effectively represent and advise the client.

"My supervisor checked in with me several times a day during the busiest preparation periods in the case. I was given a lot of responsibility and involvement, which was fantastic for my training and professional development. My supervisor explained each stage of the process in detail, to help my own understanding and to make sure I was well equipped to properly advise the client."
